Description

The Cedars is an early 19th-century house located on the south side of Main Street in Newton Solney. Constructed of rendered brick designed to resemble ashlar, the building features a hipped Welsh slate roof with deeply overhanging eaves and lateral chimney stacks. Architectural details include pilaster strips at the corners, a plain plinth, and a fluted and plain band beneath the eaves.

The north elevation has three bays. A Tuscan Doric porch with two steps provides access to a half-glazed front door with a rectangular overlight. Either side of the door are tripartite sash windows with moulded hoodmoulds incorporating small pendant stops. Similar, albeit smaller, windows are positioned above, flanking a single sash window, all sharing the same hoodmould detail. A further bay, set back to the left, contains matching tripartite sashes on both floors. A 20th-century extension to the southwest is not of particular architectural interest.

Inside, a segmental arched alcove is found within one room. Originally named "The Villa," the house’s name reflects common Regency-era design practices.
