Description
The medieval arch from Burton Bridge is located in Newton Park and is classified as a folly. It is constructed from one of the arches of a medieval bridge from Burton-on-Trent and features a mix of re-used carved stones from various medieval periods. The structure is made of coursed squared sandstone and ashlar from the 18th century. It has a steeply pointed chamfered arch supported by two heavy ribs below. The arch is topped with a stepped parapet, and the spandrels contain carved stones, predominantly featuring medieval mouldings, including a carved head and an ogee niche. This arch was built as a decorative garden ornament for Newton Park.
