Description

This is an outbuilding located to the west of Broomhall Farmhouse, dating from the mid-18th century. It functions as a barn, cow-house, and stable, constructed of brick with some sandstone ashlar dressings. The main building has a roof made of stone slates, while the east wing features a roof of concrete tiles. The gables are finished with coped kneelers.

The main building is oriented north-south, with a slightly lower two-storey wing that projects from the north end of the east side, creating an L-shaped plan. The east wall of the main range includes three doorways with stone surrounds and large lintels. To the left, there are two windows with brick reveals and segmental heads. There is also a pitching hole at the upper level, which has a stone surround.

On the south wall of the wing, there are two stone door surrounds, although the right-hand one is now blocked. To the left, there is a window with a segmental head, and to the right, there is another window that appears to be a later addition. Below the eaves, there are three windows with plain brick reveals. A flight of stone steps, set on a brick base, leads to a first-floor doorway with a stone surround against the east gable of the wing. The building is listed for its group value.
