Description

Broomhall Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of brick with sandstone ashlar dressings and a slate roof. The gables feature brick chimneys and sandstone copings with kneelers. The house is two storeys plus an attic and has a cellar. The north facade is symmetrical, with an ashlar plinth, chamfered quoins, and a stone gutter cornice. Windows in the outer bays have rubbed brick arches and projecting stone sills. The right-hand bay has 20th-century casement windows, while the left-hand bay has glazing bar sashes. A similar sash window is located in the central bay on the first floor, set within a stone architrave. There are two blind cellar openings with segmental arches. Access to the doorway is via four sandstone steps with nosings, and the doorway itself has a surround of chamfered rustication with a cornice. The 6-panelled door is complemented by an overlight of three panes, each with shouldered round tops. A cellar window with a segmental head and an attic window towards the rear are incorporated into the right-hand (west) gable wall. A rear wing includes a quoined door surround facing west.
