Description

The conservatory, located to the south-west of Ogston Hall, is a partly ruinous structure built around 1865 by T C Hine. It is constructed from ashlar sandstone and features a single storey with a rectangular plan measuring eight bays by three bays, including diagonally set single corner bays. The building has a two-stepped plinth and is adorned with moulded semi-circular headed arches that have tracery and circles above, along with pierced spandrels set in rectangular bays. Between the bays are buttressed piers that reach to the eaves, with small semi-circular headed arches through the buttresses at the second stage. The structure is topped with scrolled copings, and above, square piers with chamfered corners support a plain entablature that is interrupted by projecting panelled capitals. A moulded cornice runs along the top, and the conservatory was formerly capped with a large cast iron glazed dome.
