Description
Broomhill Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to either 1608 or 1698, with an addition made in 1834 and further alterations in 1894. The building is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble, except for the ashlar front of the 1834 addition. It features gritstone dressings and quoins, and has a steeply pitched stone slate roof with moulded stone copings and kneelers at the gables. There is a large central stone ridge stack and a stone gable end stack on the north side.
The farmhouse has a T-shaped plan and stands three storeys tall with three bays, along with a two-storey single bay addition from 1834. The central entrance has a flush quoined doorcase with a moulded inner edge, which is now partly filled by a 20th-century fixed pane window. On either side of the door, there are two-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows fitted with 20th-century metal casements. Above the door, there is a plaque inscribed with a large "T" and "WG ES 1894". The upper storey features two similar windows to those below, with a single light window in between. There are three additional similar windows at the eaves, while the central window has been blocked.
On the north side, the addition includes a flush doorcase with a datestone above inscribed with "HM 1834". There are two flush mullion windows beyond this doorcase, with similar windows above. The east gable wall has a plaque inscribed with "CWM 1608/or 1698". At the rear, there is a large three-storey stair turret that features stepped recessed and chamfered mullion windows. The interior of the farmhouse has undergone significant alterations.
