Description

ASHOVER SK3463 CHURCH: STREET 1264-0/11/26 (West side) Group of 4 tomb chests approx. 20 metres NE of Church of All Saints GV II Four tomb chests. Mid C18. Sandstone. All have moulded tops and bases and panelled sides. The south-east tomb has 2 raised and bolection-moulded panels to each side, and carved end panels. The north-east one has panels with carvings which include an angel's head with wings and an urn with foliage, separated by fluted vertical strips. The north-west tomb has similar uprights and has panels with incised patterns. The south-west tomb is lower and has had one side panel replaced by an inscribed grave slab. Its inscription includes the name 'Job Nightingale' (d.1737). Other inscriptions are almost illegible, but that on the north-west tomb includes the name 'Thomas Nightingale' (d. 1746 [?]) .
