Description

The Old Rectory is a house that was formerly the Rectory. It underwent a mid 18th century remodelling of an earlier structure, with mid 19th century alterations and additions, as well as more recent 20th century extensions. The building is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with ashlar dressings, featuring plain gables, a central off-the-ridge chimney, and a stone slated roof.

The west elevation has two storeys and seven bays, with the two northern bays set back from the main range. It includes a 20th century remodelled doorway linked to a three-light window, situated below two 4 x 4 pane glazing bar sashes. There is an advanced five-bay outshut with a stair window at half-landing level at the north end, which has margin glazing. The remaining windows are all 4 x 4 pane glazing bar sashes set into the flush surrounds of former mullioned openings, with the ground-floor openings being taller than those on the first floor.

The doorway to the penultimate bay at the south end features an architrave surround and is enclosed by an open porch with Tuscan columns and a cornice with ball finials at the angles. The doorway itself is a plain planked 20th century design with a square light in the upper part. Additionally, there is a single-storey 20th century extension at the south end.
