2 houses. 1903-04, by Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin. Roughly coursed millstone grit with ashlar dressings. Tiled roof with overhanging eaves and moulded wooden barge boards plus brick ridge stack. STYLE: Vernacular Revival. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attic and basement. Irregular, twin gabled 4 window street front. Single-storey centre has 2 small 2-light mullion windows, over 2 basement doors, and with above a 3-light raking dormer window. Left gable has unusual corner window with triangular bay and 2-light mullion window that wraps around the corner, above a 3-light mullion window, over 2-light mullion basement window. Projecting right gable has two 4-light mullion windows to each floor that wrap around the corners. Right return has off-centre doorway reached up steps and recessed within an arched opening with angled sides plus a part glazed plank door with iron studs. Above a 4-light mullion window and to right 2 storey projecting gable wing with two 4-light mullion windows to each floor that wrap around the corners. Above in the main gable a further 4-light mullion window. Left return has similar fenestration. All windows have square leaded casements. INTERIOR: No.199 has many original features including an inglenook fireplace in sitting room with raised hearth, copper vent and copper firehood. There is a tiled fireplace surround with built-in coal box and end settles. Recess for clock above bressumer. Exposed ceiling joists and original doors remain, some of the latter with moulded cornices, also panelling with glazed top lights. The stairs have splat balusters. Upper floors contain corner fireplaces, one with tiled surround, and fitted cupboards, also washbasins by Shanks and Co, Scotland. There is a glazed light well and the attic showed eaves that are diagonally cross boarded. No.201 interior not inspected.
