Description
The garden walls and gateway to the north of Risley Hall date from the early 17th century and have undergone later alterations. They are constructed of ashlar and feature low stone walls with elaborately moulded ridgeback copings that step up near the central gateway. The gateway is positioned at an angle to both the walls and the road, facing northeast. It includes a wide, moulded four-centred arch with a large lintel, topped by a heavily moulded returned hoodmould. Above the arch is a crowstepped gable that has similar elaborately moulded ridgeback copings as the walls. Below the arch, there is a pair of 20th-century studded wooden doors. Additionally, the walls to the east have been realigned to follow the course of the road.
