Description
The churchyard walls, gates, and war memorial located to the south of All Saints Church date back to 1707, with later repairs and modifications around 1920. The walls are constructed of red brick, featuring patterns of vitrified headers and sandstone dressings. The war memorial is made of stone.
The gate piers are plain and square, standing approximately 10 feet high, topped with moulded stone cornices. Each pier has a short stone pedestal with a ball finial on a moulded base. The eastern gate pier includes an inset stone just below the cornice that is dated '1707'. Between the piers, there is a scrolled lantern arch with a central lantern, and below it are a pair of 20th-century wooden gates.
Attached to the outer side of each pier are ramped walls that curve outward, featuring a chamfered plinth, rounded stone copings, and lozenge patterns in vitrified headers. Lower brick walls with similar copings encircle the churchyard and have small abutments at regular intervals.
The war memorial, positioned against the curve of the western wall, consists of a moulded square plinth with a deep base inscribed with memorials for the victims of the First and Second World Wars. Above this is a tapering square pier with an inset panel on the east side, inscribed in raised numerals with '1914-1918' at the base. The top of the memorial is finished with a simple moulded cornice.
