Description

The railings and gates at Highfield Infant and Junior Schools were constructed in 1911 and are designed in the Art Nouveau style. They are made of cast iron and brick, featuring terracotta and stone dressings. The railings encircle three sides of a large square that encloses the two schools. They rest on a deep brick plinth with moulded blue brick copings and square piers placed at regular intervals, which have terracotta cornices beneath stone copings. The rails are topped with nailhead-type designs, and each set of railings includes a decorative panel with scrolled ironwork at the top. These railings are included for their group value context.
