Description
Christ Church Sunday School is a building constructed around 1903, likely designed by Brewell and Bailey. It is made of red brick with brick and terracotta decorations and features a slate roof with prominent brick ridge stacks and gables that are coped with brick on plain kneelers. The structure has two storeys and consists of eight bays.
The north elevation showcases three tall cross windows with leaded lights on the west side, accompanied by an advanced doorcase on the east side. This doorcase is topped with a large bracketed, moulded hood that has a curved head, above original panelled doors. To the east of the door, there is a 3-light transomed window, also featuring leaded lights, followed by two similar tall cross windows and a smaller 2-light window at the extreme east of the building.
Above, there are tall gables at either end of the building, each with three windows below. The central area has a tall double transomed 2-light window flanked by cross windows, all adorned with semi-circular relieving arches and leaded lights. The central windows are highlighted by large terracotta mouldings within the semi-circular arches. Between the gables, there is one 3-light window, similar to the one on the east side below, and a deep double transomed 2-light stair window situated above the door.
The south elevation mirrors the north side, except that the two central bays feature 3-light transomed windows both above and below. This building is included in the register for its group value with Christ Church on Derby Road.
