Description

Sturston Hall is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th century. It is constructed of roughcast walls and brick, with plain tile roofs, stone coped gables, plain kneelers, and four brick stacks. The building has a T-plan configuration augmented by a 19th-century addition to the north.

The west elevation is double-fronted and features a central doorway with a stone surround and a cambered head, now fitted with a 20th-century half-glazed door. Flanking the doorway are wooden cross windows with ovolo-moulded stone surrounds. Two similar windows are located above. The south elevation has two similar windows to the gabled bay, and in the gable is a partly blocked three-light chamfer mullion window. To the right of this are two original cross windows with ovolo moulded stone surrounds and an ovolo moulded mullion and transom. A similar three-light window is set into the north gable. A lower mid-19th century wing extends to the northeast. The interior was not inspected, but is reported to contain a 17th-century dogleg staircase.
