Description
This is a house built in 1709, located to the east of Hillside Farmhouse. It is constructed from squared coursed gritstone, with gritstone dressings and quoins. The roof is made of plain tiles and features stone coped gables with moulded kneelers, along with a square section eaves band. The house has two storeys and a double fronted south elevation.
The central doorway has a chamfered stone surround and lintel, which is inscribed with "WW 1709". There are massive quoins on the corners of the building. To the right of the doorway is a 2-light chamfer mullion window. Originally, there was a similar window to the left of the doorway, but it has been altered into a doorway by removing the mullion. Above the doorway, there are two similar windows, and a square string band at the first floor level features incised initials "GM" above the central doorway.
The south gable end has one 2-light chamfer mullion window. The east elevation includes a two-tier staircase window with 2-lights and chamfered mullions. The north gable has a blocked 2-light recessed chamfer mullion window. Inside, the house has a central lobby entrance plan and a timber staircase with oak polygonal finials on the posts at the ground floor and half landing. There are also remains of fretted flat balusters at the attic landing.
