Description

Tophouse Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse with alterations and additions from the late 19th century. It is constructed of painted brick with painted stone dressings, and has a steeply pitched plain tile roof with brick gable and ridge stacks, and moulded stone coped gables. A brick band runs along the first floor. The farmhouse is two storeys plus garrets, originally with a three-bay, lobby entrance plan. A flush-panelled, glazed 18th-century door is covered by a 19th-century lattice work porch, with a 19th-century plain sash window to the west, its stone lintel breaking through the brick band. Two similar windows are located to the east, with a blocked segment-headed doorcase between. Above, there are three similar sashes. The interior includes a bracketed stone fireplace in the central room and a splat-balustered staircase. A large 19th-century addition is attached to the north-east.
