Description
The dam and waterwheel are located at the south end of the main lake and were built in the late 1840s by Stevens of Derby. The structure is made of coursed squared rock-faced limestone and features an embankment dam with a curved plan and walls that have a slight batter. A footpath runs along the top of the dam, with stone steps descending on each side of the curved walls, which are enclosed by plain iron railings. The waterwheel is of the overshoot type and is attached to a wooden hut that has a corrugated iron and stone slate roof. Inside the hut, there is a pumping engine that remains in situ.
