Description
Stone Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is built of sandstone ashlar with stone dressings and features a plain tile roof. The roof has moulded stone coped gables, which are topped by a finial at the front, and there are stone gable stacks on the sides. The house has two bays and two storeys.
The south elevation has a very deep plinth at the base, as the house is raised high above the road. Above the plinth, there are two recessed and cavetto moulded 3-light mullion windows with cross tie heads on either side. Above these windows is a large central gable that also features a similar 3-light window, flanked by small flat-headed roof dormers with 2-light windows. All the windows are 19th-century casements.
On the west gable wall, there is a chamfered 19th-century doorcase with moulded corbels that support a chamfered lintel.
