Description

Northfield Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse situated on Main Street in the parish of Kirk Ireton. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with an ashlar front, and has a plain tiled roof with stone coped gables incorporating kneelers. Brick gable end stacks are present. The south front is double fronted, featuring plain raised window surrounds and raised quoins, and a moulded eaves cornice. A central doorway is defined by a moulded surround and entablature, leading to a six-panelled door with raised and fielded panels. Above the door is a rectangular fanlight with intersecting glazing bars. Flanking the door are glazing bar sashes, and above them are three similar sashes, with a further three smaller windows above these, one of which is a casement opening and two are fixed. A lower, twin-gabled wing extends to the rear, with 2-light flush mullioned windows. This wing has stone coped gables with kneelers and tiled roofs, except for one pitch which is covered in stone slates. A low stone garden wall runs along the front garden, topped with moulded copings and cast iron railings. The wall is punctuated by square gateposts with moulded caps.
