Description
Petworth is a house, likely built as the agents' house for Doveridge Hall, probably in 1777 by Thomas Gardner of Uttoxeter. It is constructed of red brick with sandstone ashlar dressings and has a hipped roof covered in Welsh slate. The building has one brick lateral stack and stands two storeys high, featuring a plain first floor band and a moulded eaves cornice.
The south elevation consists of three bays, with the central bay being advanced and topped with a pediment. The central doorway is framed by a projecting ashlar doorcase that includes pilasters and a pediment. The door itself is six-panelled, with the upper four panels being glazed. On either side of the doorway are glazing bar sash windows with moulded stone architraves. Above, there are three smaller windows of a similar style. To the left, there is a well-set back 18th-century wall, which is now part of the house and features large 20th-century windows.
The interior does not contain any features of special interest.
