Description

Rodsleywood is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with additions and alterations made in the late 18th century and mid 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick, primarily in Flemish stretcher bond, with some areas rendered. It features brick dressings and stone sills, topped by plain tile roofs with stone coped gables and moulded kneelers. There is a large central brick ridge stack and a brick wall stack on the southern bay.

The farmhouse has a cruiform plan, with the original house having a lobby entrance plan that runs east to west. The late 18th-century addition is located to the south, while the mid 19th-century addition is to the north. The later additions do not have garretts, and the fenestration is irregular.

On the south elevation, there is a prominent central gabled bay with a rendered gable wall that contains two 3-light segment-headed casement windows, one above the other. Each side of the bay has blocked windows, but the east side also features a segment-headed doorcase with a plank door. The eastern wing has a central, likely 19th-century, segment-headed 3-light casement window, while the west wing has a slightly off-centre original 3-light segment-headed casement. Above the west wing, there is a large blocked window, and to the east, a 19th-century segment-headed 2-light casement window. The eastern wing also has a similar early 18th-century window positioned close to the central bay.

Both the east and west gable walls have original early 18th-century 3-light segment-headed windows on the ground and first floors, with similar blocked 2-light garrett windows above. The ground floor window on the east gable wall is blocked, with 19th-century windows inserted on either side.

Inside, the farmhouse features oak beams and one stud partition wall. The early 18th-century central fireplaces have been removed, and a staircase has been added.
