Description

The Crenellated Stone Memorial in Barlborough is a memorial arch made of ashlar sandstone. It features a shallow arched structure supported by two square piers topped with crocketed pinnacles. The arch is crenellated and carries an inscription that reads, "IN MEMORY OF ROBt AND HANh MEE THE FATHER AND MOTHER OF Sh BOALER." The inner faces of the piers have weathered inscriptions, eight lines long, that refer to Robert and Hannah Boaler. The Boaler family resided at Sycamore House in Barlborough from the late 18th century until the house was sold in 1907, and they are buried at Carburton in Nottinghamshire. This memorial is one of two dedicated to the Boaler family, located together in the garden of Sycamore House, and it forms a group with another monument to the north-west.
