Description
Barlborough House is a house that dates from the 17th century, with additions from the mid-18th century and mid-19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with sandstone dressings and features a steeply pitched hipped Welsh slate roof, with stacks hidden within the valley. The house has two storeys and a north elevation that consists of five symmetrical bays. The central doorway is framed by a moulded stone doorcase topped with a bracketed broken pediment, and it has a raised and fielded panelled door. On either side of the doorway are 19th-century canted bay windows, which have hipped roofs and plain sashes. Above, there are five plain sashes set in plain ashlar surrounds. Inside, the house features an 18th-century closed string staircase with turned balusters. The entrance hall contains reset panelling from the 16th century, and an upper room has a mid-18th-century eared chimneypiece made of Hopton Wood stone with relief carving.
