Description
The Pole Almshouses are a pair of almshouses built in 1752 and restored in 1983. They are constructed from coursed squared sandstone with sandstone dressings and quoins, while the rear is rendered. The building features a Welsh slate roof that is hipped to the south and has twin gables to the north, complete with copings and moulded kneelers. There are brick gable and ridge stacks. The almshouses are two storeys high and have a symmetrical three-bay south elevation. The central doorway has a plain stone surround and is flanked by two 2-light square section flush mullion windows, with three similar windows above. A raised stone panel between the doorway and the window above bears the inscription: "This HOSPITAL was Erected and Endowed by Mrs Margt. Pole and Miss Mary Pole of Park Hall. in this parish A.D. 1752." The side elevations feature two tiers of three 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows with squared leaded glazing.
