Description

The stable block at Brookhill Hall, now converted into a house, dates from the early 19th century and underwent conversion around 1970. It is constructed of red brick with brick and stone detailing, featuring a hipped roof made of graduated Westmorland slate, complete with lead flashings and a dentilled brick eaves band. The building is arranged in a U-shape, with a central three-storey single bay tower flanked by two-storey, three-bay wings that have return wings at either end.

The main facade includes a stone plinth and a continuous stone band at the impost level of the ground floor openings. The central bay is slightly advanced and features steps leading to a plank door, which is topped by a Gothick traceried fanlight set within a blind semi-circular headed recess. There are three similar blind recesses on either side, each containing a two-light casement window below a Gothick traceried fanlight. Above these, seven two-light casement windows are set beneath flat brick arches, all with projecting sills.

The wings have hipped roofs, and the tower has a plain brick band at the eaves level, along with a clock face in a blind square panel on the third storey, also beneath a flat brick arch. The hipped roof is topped with a central brick stack flanked by octagonal timber turrets that have arched sides, alternating between glazed and louvred sections, and a leaded roof with tall finials. The left return of the building features a blocked cart entrance, with two segment-headed doors to the right and three circular pitching doors above, which are now glazed. The rear and interior of the building are from the 20th century.
