Description
The windmill tower, located to the west of St Michael's Church, dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed tapering squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and iron bands. The tower is circular in plan and consists of four stages. The south side features a doorcase with a large plain lintel and a plank door. Above this, on the third stage, there is a square window with a plain surround. Similar openings are present on the first, second, and fourth stages on the east and west sides. Iron bands are located at each floor level, and there are remains of an eaves band at the top. The tower was roofless at the time of the re-survey, and the interior has remnants of three floors but is otherwise gutted.
