Description

Dale Bridge is a road bridge built around 1840 for the North Midland Railway Company. It is constructed from massive ashlar and rock-faced gritstone. The bridge features a double arch design with shallow segmental arches, framed by rusticated voussoirs. Above the arches, there is a boldly projecting continuous roll moulding, along with a massive rock-faced masonry parapet that is topped by a deep projecting coping with chamfered edges. The parapet walls have splayed ends that terminate in low circular piers.
