Description

These almshouses, located at No 25 on The Butts, were originally built in 1713 by Matthew Smith and later rebuilt in 1829 by Gregory Gregory. The building is set back from the road in a garden and is constructed of coursed stone with quoins and a hipped tiled roof featuring a central chimney. There is an eaves band and an end band between the floors, which is carried above the central stone porch. The building has a central gable with kneelers and a cartouche, along with a plaque below it. It is two storeys high with four windows symmetrically arranged, all featuring stone mullions. The central single-storey stone porch has a cornice and blocking course, with a single window and side doors.
