Description

Carrbrook Farmhouse and the attached outbuilding to the north are located in the parish of Shottle and Postern. The farmhouse is a rebuilding from the early 19th century of an earlier structure, with an attached wing dating from the late 18th century. The building is constructed from regularly coursed squared gritstone, featuring square brick stacks and a hipped roof covered with Welsh slate.

The south elevation of the farmhouse has two storeys and three bays, with glazing bar sash windows set beneath plain flush lintels. There is a plain central doorway beneath a deep lintel, which has a six-panelled door that is now fully glazed. An ornamental cast-iron porch with a flat roof and pierced spandrels leads to the doorway.

The lower outbuilding to the north originally had single light and two-light windows with flush surrounds, but it now features a modern casement window in a two-light opening on the ground floor. The north end of the outbuilding has a stable doorway with a massive quoined surround, flanked by single light windows on both the ground and first floors. Above the stable doorway, there is a single two-light flush mullioned window with a casement, and the doorway itself has a half-glazed 20th-century door.
