Description
This railway bridge, built around 1840 for the North Midland Railway Company, is located to the southeast of Dale Bridge. It is constructed from regularly coursed rock-faced gritstone with ashlar dressings. The bridge features a single arch, with rusticated ashlar on the arch and its spandrels. Above the arch, there is a boldly projecting continuous roll moulding, topped by a shallow plain ashlar parapet, which now has 20th-century metal railings. The brick lining of the arch rises from a projecting moulded plinth band, which is returned onto the arch facings, creating a separation between the ashlar work and the rock-faced masonry below. The parapet walls have splayed ends that terminate in half-octagon piers.
