Description
The building at 22-30 Well Street is a row of five cottages dating from the early 19th century, though they were not all built at the same time. The cottages are constructed from ironstone, with slate roofs, except for number 30, which has a thatched roof. Number 22, known as The Forge, is a two-storey building constructed in two sections. The left-hand section has a single bay, separated by a straight joint from a further section containing a door, a window, and a double door entry leading to the forge. It has casement windows and a date stone inscribed ‘1832’ above. Number 24 is a single two-storey cottage of similar construction. Number 26 is also a single two-storey cottage, dated 1823. Numbers 28 and 30 are of distinct builds; number 28 is a two-storey, two-unit cottage with a rear entrance through a passage. Number 30 is a one-and-a-half-storey cottage with two units, a central doorway, and three dormers above. Above the doorway is a carved lintel featuring a human head, partially obscured by a modern porch. Casement windows are found throughout, some of which have been renewed. The building has brick stacks.
