Description

Langham House is a large house comprised of two distinct sections, with its front facing Melton Road. The eastern range is likely from the 18th century, while the western block dates to around 1910 and is built in a Jacobethan style, influenced by the work of H. Goodhart Rendel. Both sections are constructed from coursed square rubble with quoins, and have stone-tiled roofs.

The earlier part of the house is two stories high with attics, and has three bays. Facing Church Street, it features two windows to the left of the front door and one to the right, all of which are 12-light sash windows with stone architraves, voussoirs, and keystones. Matching sash windows are present at the rear of this section, along with three gabled dormers, one of which is canted. Two axial brick stacks are also present.

The later section of the house lacks visual cohesion on the Church Street elevation; it includes a tile-hung projecting wing and a doorway leading to a colonnade of segmental arches along the side walls. However, it presents a formal facade onto Melton Road. This part is also two stories high with attics, and features projecting outer gables. The gable to the left incorporates a two-story bay window with mullions. The right-hand gable has a triple-light sash window and a Palladian window above. The central range includes a full-height canted bay window and 12-light sashes. Two gabled dormers are situated above. Ashlar dressings are incorporated, including a sill course and eaves cornice. Axial and gable end moulded stone stacks are also present. A fine, segmental-headed, traceried window is located in the side elevation, providing light to the staircase.
