Description

The war memorial lychgate, built around 1922, is located at the churchyard of St. Peter and St. Paul in Market Overton. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a hipped roof made of Collyweston slate. An ashlar pier supports the roof, which has open gables at both the front and rear. Each pier has an oak wall post on the inner face that supports the gates and a cusped barge board above. The gates are made of oak with iron uprights and fleur-de-leys finials. Inscriptions commemorating both World Wars, along with lists of names, are displayed on the piers. This memorial was created and erected by the men of the village. Surrounding the churchyard on three sides are coursed dry stone walls, some of which have stone coping.
