Description
The Old Rectory is a house, formerly a rectory, built in 1858 by Sidney Smirke, R.A. It is constructed of coursed squared stone with stone dressings, a plinth, and a band, topped with a double span hipped Welsh slate roof featuring wide wooden eaves and five moulded stone ridge and other stacks. The building has 2½ storeys with sash windows, mainly in a 2/2 configuration, and moulded stone frames. The windows have cambered lintels.
The entrance front is on the right side and features three windows with a central square flat-topped porch. There are two stone steps leading up to a rounded arch with a deep hollow moulded chamfer and a console keystone. Additional small one-light windows and a two-light dormer are present. The front facing the road has three 2/2 sash windows; the central ground floor window is above a two-leaved low dado door, which is accessed by three stone steps. A 20th-century skylight is located in the roof. The left side of the building has four sashes and a canted bay on the ground floor to the right. Inside, there is a stone floor in the hall and a contemporary staircase with moulded cast iron balusters and an oak rail.
