Description
Number 3, Aldgate is a cottage dated 1681, featuring the initials "M over I C" on the south gable. It is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and banding on the south gable. The roof is made of Collyweston stone slate and has a coped south gable along with a moulded stone stack at the south end. The building is one storey high, with a basement and attic, and has one window width.
The front of the cottage, facing the street to the east, includes a small basement window with a moulded head and hood-band, and above it, there is a 2-light window with an ovolo-moulded mullion. Decorative wrought iron tie ends are also present. The south gable features a later ground floor window and two oval lunettes above it. The entrance is located at the rear, which has a 2-light mullioned window above and one gabled dormer. Additionally, there are two low gabled outbuildings that project from the rear. All windows were blocked in 1983, except for a leaded casement opening in the 2-light window at the rear.
