Description
The Wilson tomb, located in the churchyard of St. Nicholas, is a shrine tomb dating from 1876. It is constructed of stone and features a finely crafted miniature canopied shrine topped with an octagonal spirelet, which is adorned with a foliage finial and a small cross. The tomb has a square pier at its center, with gables on each side. Each corner is accentuated by free-standing red stone shafts that have foliage capitals. The tomb is positioned near the north aisle of the church, situated in the middle of a grave plot that is bordered by stone edging. The inscription on the tomb commemorates George Wilson of Stamford and is dated 1876.
