Description
The Priory is a house that incorporates remains of a former priory, primarily dating from the 19th century, although it may be based on the restoration of earlier features. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with dressings and has a slate roof. The entrance front has one storey with attics. On the left side, there is a projecting gable that features a 3-light plain chamfered mullion window in the cellar and a 19th-century 4-light king mullioned window above, complete with a hoodmould and a decorated lintel. In the gable, there is an ornately traceried flat-headed light, adorned with Tudor roses in the spandrels, alongside two flanking medieval fragments. To the right, there is a single bay with a 3-light mullioned window, which may date from the 17th century, and in the angle, there is a projecting flat-roofed porch with a 4-centred 19th-century arch leading to the outer door. At the rear, a wing projects; the south face is 19th-century and stuccoed, featuring two storeys and three bays with sash windows set in ornately moulded architraves. The north side of the wing is much older and includes a 3-light stone mullioned window on each floor. A small section of castellated wall connects the house to 'the cottage', and this wall has a shallow segmental arch.
