Description
Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1583, as indicated by an inscription that reads, "Thomas Brown founder and builder of this house only by the help of God as saith the prophit David except the land build the house they labour in vain that build it," located in a cartouche over the door. Although the building has been modified since its original construction, it still represents an early vernacular farmhouse. The structure is made of coursed rubble with squared bands and features a thatched roof. It is two storeys high and consists of two units, with a lower unit that may have been a separate dwelling.
To the left of the door, there is a 16-light sash window and a small chamfered stone window on the ground floor, with a horizontal sliding sash window above. The doorway is set beneath a heavy lintel, with an inner lintel that is a roughly shaped four-centred arch. There is a fire window to the right of the door and a canted stone bay window, which is a shallow projection capped with stone but now contains renewed wood casements. Above this bay window is a 24-light sash window. A small cellar light is located beyond the bay, followed by a lower roofed additional bay that has continuous walling. This bay features a door with an overlight and a chamfered timber lintel, along with a 24-light sash window beyond it. The building has angle quoins that are slightly projecting pilasters and includes two axial and two gable stacks made of stone and brick. Inside, there is some 18th-century panelling in the lower through-passage.
