Description

Stonefield Farm is a house, dated 1772, with an earlier core. A stone inscribed with the initials “S over I O” is set into the gable wall, indicating the date, although it may refer to a later alteration or heightening of the building. The house is built of roughly-coursed rubble with decorative ashlar bands in the gable wall, although the longer walls show various building phases. The house has two storeys and a two-unit plan. On the west wall is a stone mullioned window with an ovolo moulded frame on the ground floor, and a casement window above it; a further window to the right has a chamfered timber lintel. The east side has a pair of two-light casement windows on each floor, each with a chamfered timber lintel. A fragment of a lintel or hoodmould is incorporated into the wall angle. The gable wall features a datestone above a two-light casement window with a chamfered timber lintel. A lower addition to the north gable end has stacks, and a doorway.
