Description
The Old Cottage is a house, likely originally two dwellings, dating from the early 17th century, with a date of 1733 noted beneath the stack, probably indicating later alterations. It is constructed of coursed rubble and topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building has two storeys and four bays, reflecting its former use as two separate two-unit dwellings. The inner two bays feature three-light ovolo moulded mullioned windows with hoodmoulds, and on either side of these windows, there are doors with timber lintels that are chamfered with ornate stops. A scratch dial is present on one quoin. The outer bays also contain three-light stone mullioned windows, with similar windows located above. However, not all windows are original to the house. The gables are coped, and there are axial and gable end stacks. Inside, there are two inglenooks in the right-hand two bays, along with an 18th-century stone fireplace in an inner room, which is not in its original position. The house also features a series of fine panelled oak doors that appear to belong to it.
