Description

The Old Hall is a large house with an early 18th-century facade built onto an earlier structure, which is dated 1688 on the rear gable. The facade features ashlar stonework, a plinth, and a moulded eaves cornice. The building has three storeys with irregularly spaced bays, a central door framed by a Gibbs surround, a pediment, and an ornate keystone. The 12-light sash windows have projecting architraves and ornate keystones. The gable walls and the rear of the house are constructed of coursed rubble.

Originally, the house had a T-plan layout, but there is now a late 18th-century and 19th-century wing that is larger than the arm of the T. This wing also has three storeys and features a projecting gabled wing on the right with angle quoins and paired sash windows on the ground floor, inserted into an earlier opening and topped with a hoodmould. On the first floor, there is a single light window with a hoodmould at the apex, along with a datestone and the initials C over W.B. The gable is coped and has large stepped stones. To the left of the wing are two bays with 18th-century openings, including a French window and a door on the ground floor, and two sashes above, all with incised keystones, plus a single light in the attic storey with a chamfered timber lintel.

A later wing projects to the right and is two storeys high, featuring a single two-light casement on the ground floor. Beyond this is a later section from the late 19th century made of rusticated rubble, with various openings that have relieving arches. The main range has gable axial stacks. Inside, the hall contains a fine 18th-century panelled room with lugged architraves around the door and window surrounds, a plain dado, and a plaster eaves cornice.
