Description

Poplar’s Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble, with an asbestos slate roof and tall gable copings. Brick chimneys are located flanking the central bay and at the right gable. The house has a cross-passage plan and a blocked rear door. It is one storey and an attic, with three bays.

The left bay features a 20th-century brick buttress and 20th-century single and three-light wooden casement windows with concrete lintels. The central bay has 17th-century three-light windows; the lower window has a moulded cornice, and the upper window is set within a tall gabled dormer. A small window with a stone surround serves as a fireplace on the right side. The right bay has a three-light wooden and metal casement window with a wooden lintel, and a 19th-century six-panelled door is situated to the left. The right gable has three-light stone mullion windows, similar to those in the central bay, with an upper window having a Tudor hoodmould. A similar window is located at the rear.

Inside, the central room contains a heavy chamfered spine beam and similar side beams supported by brackets.
