Description

This is a row of four estate cottages, dated 1858, and built for the Marquess of Exeter. They are constructed from rubble ironstone with limestone bands, and have roofs of Collyweston slate with three rubblestone chimneys. The cottages are arranged over one and a half storeys and have four or five bays each. A chamfered string course runs along the front, stepping over the bay windows and the date plaque; a small central buttress is also present. The windows are casements with chamfered wooden mullions and horizontal glazing bars. Three upper windows have a single leaded light each, though two have been replaced. Flat stone arches feature over all openings except the bay windows. The outer bays project and are gabled, each containing a two-light casement above a canted bay window. The central range has two three-light casements at ground floor level, flanking board doors, and four two-light upper windows within gabled dormers, with the two central windows situated in a single, larger dormer. Each end has a projecting gable with a front door. A 20th-century extension is present on the left-hand end.
