Description
This chest tomb, dating from around 1776, is located adjacent to the south porch on the west side of the Church of St Leodegarius in Basford, Nottingham. It is constructed of ashlar and features baluster corners with moulded edges along the top. The tomb commemorates Joshua Ward, who died in 1768, as well as other members of the Ward family, with records indicating their presence from 1735 onwards. Notably, Henry Ward Snr., who passed away in 1735, is said to have lived to the age of 108.
