Description
53 Castle Gate is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the mid 17th century and has been altered in the mid 18th century and the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, featuring brick dressings and steeply pitched plain tile roofs, which include a large rebuilt ridge stack and coped gables. There are first and second floor bands. The structure has two storeys plus attics and a three-window range of 12-pane sash windows. All openings are topped with brick flat arches and brick keystones. Above, there are two through-eaves dormers with coped gables and three-light casements. The ground floor features a simple wooden doorcase with a cornice on flat brackets, a six-panel door, and an overlight. On each side of the door, there is a 12-pane sash window.
