Description
The Nottingham Garden Centre is housed in a former stable block that dates back to 1781 and has been altered in the late 20th century. It was designed by William Henderson of Loughborough and constructed by Samuel Stretton. The building is made of red brick with ashlar dressings and features a hipped slate roof with two ridge stacks. It has a rendered plinth, an impost band, and dentillated eaves made of both ashlar and brick.
The stable block is two storeys high and has a five-window range. The original openings have rubbed brick heads and surrounds. The central entrance bay projects and features a pediment with a round window. There is an elliptical arched carriage opening with wooden double gates, and above it, a rectangular blank area flanked by two round blanks. On each side of the entrance, there are two round arches, with the right side being blank. To the left, there is an inserted door and two glazing bar windows. Above, to the right, are two original shallow casements, and to the left, there are two plain sash windows. The rear ranges of the building are irregular and mostly reglazed. This structure served as an ancillary building to Wilford House.
