Description

These gate piers and boundary fence relate to the nearby Dorothy Boot Homes. Constructed around 1920, they are built from coursed squared stone. The fence defines a triangular garden situated in front of the almshouses. Two square gate piers, topped with ball finials, stand in the centre and support wooden gates. Curved fences, set upon plinths, extend to either side. A straight section of fence measuring approximately 70 metres runs along Main Road to its junction with Holly Avenue, incorporating an additional gateway. To the right, a shorter section, roughly 30 metres long, borders Grange Close and is punctuated by square piers. The plinths currently support a paling fence, likely replacing an earlier railing. The features are included in the listing for their contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
