Description
No. 8 George Street is a Roman Catholic chapel, now used as offices, built around 1825-1828 by Edward Willson of Lincoln. The building is constructed of red brick with an ashlar front and features a slate roof. It has a rendered plinth and stands two storeys tall, with a rectangular plan oriented endwise to the street. The street-facing side has quoins and a first-floor band, topped with a pediment. In the center, there is a cross mullioned window flanked by double doors with overlights. Above this, three tripartite Gothic windows with transoms are present. The right side of the building has irregular openings in the center, flanked by pairs of pointed arched windows with glazing bars, and above are five smaller pointed arched windows that have been reglazed. This chapel was the first Roman Catholic chapel in Nottingham, later replaced by Pugin's St Barnabas in Derby Road.
