Description
A pair of houses built in 1887 by Watson Fothergill of Nottingham for JJ Adams. The properties are constructed of red brick with black brick and ashlar dressings, topped with plain tile roofs that are gabled and half-hipped. They feature two valley stacks and two side wall coped brick stacks. Designed in the Domestic Revival style, the houses incorporate a plinth, polychrome bands, a diaper work band above the first floor, and traceried bargeboards to the front gables. The windows are mainly sash windows with wooden mullions and transoms.
The buildings are three storeys high with a four-window range. The front is symmetrical, with a projecting centre section featuring a double gable and two canted bay windows with cross frames and hipped roofs. One bay window has an unusual wooden lamp bracket shaped like a beast’s head. Above the bay windows are two tripartite sashes, and above those, two cross-framed sashes. The side bays have open wooden porches with hipped roofs, sheltering half-glazed doors with sidelights which have been renewed. The returns of the houses feature pent-roofed side porches and regular fenestration with segment-arched windows.
