Description

The ice house, retaining wall, steps, and railings located north-west of Wollaton Hall date from the early 19th century and are possibly designed by Wyatville. The structure is primarily made of brick, with most areas rendered and featuring ashlar dressings and slab coping.

The retaining wall is approximately 120 meters long and curves north-westward from Wollaton Hall, supporting a natural hillside where the ice house is situated. Closest to Wollaton Hall, there is a flight of semicircular steps that leads to a path about 50 meters long, which is flanked by a wrought-iron railing. Set into the wall is a stone water trough, and further along, there is a recess containing two segment-arched plank doors. Above this, integrated into the slope, is a round-arched tunnel entrance to the ice house, which has a renewed board door.

These features are adjacent to Wyatville's west terrace, constructed in 1823.
